What makes a good duelist.
Is it the skill or the cards?
This has been a question that is often addressed by people far and wide. A deck design completely to bring another duelist to annihilation could be viewed as hardly much skill and very stander tactics. Today my knowledge comes from a point of view created out of a simple test...
I previously engage a test that had a deck design most basic of the gem like creatures but they were unable to handle my Machina/ancient gear set up. For my complete control, I passed with extreme colors. This was in till my test results was lost and thus a new test was given...
The next or new test was a chaos design deck. Chaos decks use light and dark based creatures to special summon extremely powerful monsters but unlike what people define as a special summoning based deck: Chaos decks have extremely powerful cards that causes misfortune to the opponent and can break down people with no problem.
My deck against such a deck was proven useless, nearly, as effects were played, negating my monsters and simply crushing them. Because of my lost, I was viewed with a score that brought me down from a near perfect testing to the average joe.
Infuriating as it sounds and as much as I could be viewed as a sore loser. I couldn't help but shake this feeling, why am I so upset. Is it because I made it with flying colors in to the highest area known as utopia gold then all because of my previous tester own mistake. I was given a much harder challenge that forced me 2 leagues under?
I think I find the truth is> I feel the only way to become better is by simply winning.
That compelled me... the only way it seems to win is just make a deck that has nothing but stop this, stop that, destroy this, a simple tactical design: Competitive.
The best kind of cards are those favor by all people and most people would want. This is what soon arose my feeling of what I define as, my understanding.
I wasn't tested upon my ability of how I played. I was tested if I could beat a deck, regardless of what kind. Sure, the smallest of score was depended on my deck it self but that comes in to play a question: Skill or cards.
With out the proper skill, one couldn't know the combos and set up to bring out their lashing monstrous force yet one with the most devastating cards could just play them out with little knowledge and destroy people like nothing.
Who am I to say though that one person has no skill and another does, that isn't the statement I'm making.
How do we view what is a good duelist and what isn't.
I leave this to you guys as an open opinion.
"The skill or the cards."
To make this more understanding, it can't be both. This would cause a loop hole effect and statements of the utmost confusion.

Re: What makes a good duelist.
The difference is chess is fair play. Everything is equal on both sides of the field. In yugioh, this is range upon the deck design and cards. One so using a vast majority of cards that are legitimacy known as: Over powered against a deck with just a basic structured would be wiped out. Though the real question comes, is it more so about what cards you use? Or how you use them. Even the most over powered version deck can be played with ease.
I finally made my own chaos deck and wiped out 3 monsters as well attacked directly with a win just by using black luster soldier envoy's banish effect, tribute, play cyber dragon, banish him and a dark monster, play chaos, have Caius attack, dealt 1000 damage, then the rest was a piece of cake.
That took skill and concentration. I believe the idea of where I got this question was the test I took. It was more so only meant to be effective if I won and dominated my opponent. I believe the test should be made with a test design deck.
Two of the same decks. For equal fairness like chess. The second test then should be based on their own deck design and the final test should be based against extremely powerful decks.
Instead the test is just duel any tester and what ever deck you face, good luck.
This isn't testing people on their skill or ability to duel. The test is just luck! It's either you win and make it high or lose and get no where.

It is how you use the cards.

Re: What makes a good duelist.
That may be the ultimate case. Though depends also on what cards you have to use. Is it one who makes a better deck or one who has the better understanding how the cards work.

Re: What makes a good duelist.
If you know I am also good at chess but always get bored when I played chess
Anyways I keep playing with noobies in chess but anyways I would quite prefer to play with the ai because they are super hard to beat but it depends on what is the difficulty, of course daah!

Re: What makes a good duelist.
hmm this question was a good one. I personally believe that it's the skill at which you use the cards. But then again it's also on luck too... because with all of the overpowered cards that keep getting spammed it seems everything is a hit or bust...
